Gluten-free

Gluten free recipes can be made with ease once you learn the basics of gluten free baking and cooking.

The main ingredient that you are removing from traditional recipes to make them gluten free is WHEAT. There are other ingredients that are off limits for gluten free recipes too. You must read labels carefully and know what ingredients contain gluten.

Tips to successfully make gluten free recipes

  • Check ingredients carefully. Know what ingredients have gluten.
  • Each brand handles ingredients differently. Oats may be gluten free (and labeled as such) by some brands and not gluten free for other brands.
  • If you have celiac disease you must be extra careful to check ingredient lists.
  • Watch for cross contamination and cross contact of gluten and gluten free items. Don't share toasters, strainers, or other items where crumbs from traditional baked goods could remain even after cleaning.
  • Keep all gluten containing ingredients in your pantry separate from gluten free ingredients.
  • Gluten free ingredients should be in air tight containers and on the top shelves of your pantry to avoid any cross contamination of traditional flours. Better yet, make your home a gluten free zone.
  • Be open to experimenting with recipes. Try and try again. Don't get frustrated.
  • Seek out trusted gluten free brands and use their flour blends and baking mixes for your gluten free recipes. Here are more Gluten Free Baking Tips will make the transition to GF eating a bit easier.
