Candy Corn Bundt Cake

Candy corn inspired this Bundt cake. I love this seasonal candy and eat more than my share as soon as it hits the shelves in September all the way through Thanksgiving. Layers aren't always realistic in Bundt cakes but I tried anyhow to recreate the orange, yellow and white sections of candy corn in this cake.

I used food coloring to make the three colors (and, yes, I did pause before using artificial colors but this is Halloween and I am guessing this won't be the first or last I see of artificial flavors this month, right?). The layers swirled inside but stayed relatively separated on the outside which made for a happy surprise when the cake came out of the cake pan. An glaze made of candy corn and cream finished off the candy corn theme. Happy Halloween!

Total Time 1 hour 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 large eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • food coloring in orange, yellow and white

Glaze:

  • 1 cup candy corn
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Instructions

For the cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray Bundt pan with baking spray and dust with flour.
  2. Combine sugar, butter, vanilla, and eggs with an electric mixer or stand mixer. Beat on high for 3-5 minutes. Separately mix the dry ingredients-- the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternating with milk until just combined.
  3. Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center. Cool completely in pan before turning out onto a wire rack or cake stand.

For the glaze

  1. Heat the candy corn and heavy cream on low in a small saucepan, stirring frequently. Once the majority of candy corn has melted, take the pan off the heat and whisk the glaze until smooth.

  1. So very, very clever, Holly. You are armed and ready to take on Halloween in style! I so admire how cleanly you managed to separate the 3 layers and colors. Plus, the inside looks so pretty. Did you do any swirling?

    1. No swirling at all, in fact it was fun to see how my layers of cake batter did their own thing in the cake pan. I seem to have trouble leaving comments on your site and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your M&M cake. What fun!

    1. Thanks, Dorothy, wasn't this a fun theme to bake along with this month? Who doesn't love candy?

  2. I love the inside, Holly! You have managed to get the colors of candy corn beautifully. I am so impressed by those swirls! And the orange glaze is gorgeous as well.

    1. I was surprised by the swirls myself. The cake did its own thing and it came out in a pretty pattern. Baking is always full of surprises in my kitchen!

  3. Perfect for Halloween Holly...now I need to find some of that candy corn that is half chocolate. Those are my favorite.

    1. I haven't spotted any of the chocolate candy corn yet but I bet it's out there!

  5. I tried to make candy corn cupcakes one time and the result was not as stellar as this...wow! Gorgeous colors. The glaze is so perfect for fall and Halloween:)Love this for our theme this month, Holly!

  6. I like that you say the cream tames the candy corn because I do find that candy way too sweet. But this cake! It's a work of art, inside and out, and the recipe sounds like a delicious pound cake. Bravo!

    1. Yes, candy corn is so sweet-- there is no good reason to explain why I like it so much! I think I still have a bag hidden (from me!) in the pantry. : )

    1. Me too-- I love candy corn! Enjoy eating it this month while it is available.

  7. Holly!

  8. Your bundt is just spectacular, and I love the styling with the leaves. I am not a big candy corn fan either (we didn't celebrate Halloween growing up in Australia, nor can you buy candy corn there) but I think I am going to have to give it another try after seeing your cake.

  9. I am not a candy corn fan, but I have a feeling this cake would change my mind. So pretty! Great pics 😉

    1. I hope you have a fun Halloween with your sweet kids! And I will look forward to see how your family celebrates the Day of the Dead. Hope it is a special time with your family.

  10. I used to adore candy corn when I was a kid, but now I'm a little weirded out by it. I mean...what is it, exactly? Haha! This cake though? LOVE. It's so pretty and creative!

    1. Ha, you are right! What IS IT? I am guessing it's just a bundle of sugar with fun colors. I have a half-eaten bag in the pantry but now am scared to look at the ingredients! Some things are better off not knowing!! : )

  11. Oh my goodness, that is just amazing! Love that you actually made the glaze from candy corn. What a wonderfully creative idea. Brilliant!
