Brownie Affogato is a fancy name for a simple and dreamy Italian style dessert. What a treat I have to share with you today—Boulder Ice Cream! Ice cream is a product comprised of simple ingredients—milk and cream combined with eggs and sugar. Basic, yet, when basic ingredients are carefully selected and minimally processed, you get fantastic results.
This is a company that believes in best practices making premium, all-natural ice cream while operating under sustainable practices guidelines to minimize its environmental impact. Locally sourced milk? Check. Wind power that off sets electrical use? Check. Ridiculously good ice cream? CHECK!!! Perfect for my brownie affogato.
Boulder Ice Cream uses milk from cows in nearby dairy farms. Small batches of ice cream are made with careful attention to quality. Flavors range from Vanilla to Mexican Chocolate to Island Coconut- there are over 150 options! I often reach for specialty ice cream pints at the grocery store…you likely know the same brands as I do…and, after tasting this Boulder Ice Cream, I am so pleased to have this Colorado company to support. Their ice cream is really good. Try some, you’ll see. Boulder Ice Cream is available in 9 states in the Western and Southwestern US.
If you don’t eat the entire pint of ice cream in one sitting with one spoon on your own (no judgment passed here!) then you’ll want to try this brownie affogato with Boulder Ice Cream’s Espresso Chocolate Chip flavor. Affogato means “drowned” in Italian and in this case you will drown your brownie a la mode with espresso. A simple dessert but special enough to share with company, and it’s really easy to make too. The hot espresso starts to melt the cold ice cream and makes a rich and creamy sauce for the brownie beneath.

Freshly brewed espresso
I won’t use amounts with this “recipe” because I am guessing you can cut brownies to whatever size you like, scoop AS MUCH ice cream as you’d like and then top it with a bit of espresso. Right? I thought so!
