Fig Jam and Prosciutto Pizza

If a Fig Jam and Prosciutto Pizza doesn’t sound like your usual Friday night take-out, do not worry, it is even better. Try it once and you’ll soon find any excuse to eat this flavor combination—paninis, bruschetta, on a simple cracker and even on its own. Maybe the kids won’t think this is “real pizza” so save it for a night with the girls or make it along side the traditional cheese pizza for the rest of the family.

Make  your own dough or start with a pre-made crust (I used a Boboli crust this time). Spread a layer of fig jam over the crust then top with fresh mozzarella. Most grocery stores carry a fig jam or spread or you can make your own. Bake in a 450 degree F oven for 12-15 minutes.

Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with thin slices of prosciutto and either baby spinach or arugula. The pizza heats up the greens and slightly wilts them along with the prosciutto.

  1. This is my kind of pizza; I haven't had a pizza with red sauce or pepperoni in many years!

For crust; a couple of other suggestions: Locally Toni's carries frozen pizza crust, both white and whole wheat, that are from the Il Foranio restaurant group and I know Abo's sells their fresh dough for crusts too. Abo's is good but you can't beat the convenience of having great dough on hand that you don't have to use right away if you get the frozen ones.

Sounds good but even more? Beautiful photo.

  2. Thanks, Barb! I read your post a few weeks ago which mentioned where to buy crust and think it's a great idea. I should just make it myself but don't often get around to it. My photos are improving slowly but are not where I want them to be. When you want to teach a photography class I'll be the first to sign up!
