Have you seen this gadget? It’s been around for a long time and, judging by the eight languages printed on the box, it must be popular around the world. It’s the Pineapple Slicer by VacuVin Innovations. My grandmother came across the gadget first, and shared a few with the rest of the family. I’ve had it for so long I can’t remember the details of how it found its way to my kitchen.
We lived in Hawaii for a brief time and I learned a lot about pineapples there. I had no idea how they grew until spotting them along side of the rode in a huge field filled with pineapples. Pineapples grow on spiky plants that are low to the ground, with usually only one pineapple fruit per plant.

Pineapple in a can serves many purposes but it can’t replace the freshness of cutting into the fruit yourself. You can twist the top off then slice down the sides to remove the tough skin, before coring and slicing the pineapple…or you can use this gadget.
First cut the top off the pineapple and center the slicer on the core of the pineapple. Next press down as you twist it. That’s it! Your pineapple will be cored and sliced with ease. Pull out the stack of slices to find your long spiral of pineapple. Gorgeous!
Come back on Friday to see what dessert I made with this lovely sliced pineapple.

I do love this gadget. I found mine a couple years ago at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I use it because my girls love pineapple and this makes fresh pineapple just as easy as opening a can. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is great to know you can buy these at BB&B. I wish my boys would eat fresh pineapple. They won't but will put it in a smoothie. Thanks for your comment!
DeleteWow, it looks so easy. We're going to Hawai'i this summer and I think the thing I'm looking forward to most is the pineapples (everything else might not live up to my expectations, but the pineapple will)
ReplyDeleteOh enjoy your trip! If you are on Oahu, you'll have to check out the pineapples at the Dole Plantation. Thanks for your comments today!
